The Value Of A Big Dream

Welcome to Principle #2

You can’t shove a big life into a small dream.

Is Your Dream Big Enough?

In nearly 30 years of studying gutsy leaders and courageous organizations, one truth stands out: it is people who feel valued and dare to dream big who build powerful companies, inspire innovations and create legacies.

This second principle challenges you to ask: Is My Dream Big Enough, does it spark curiosity and inspire action from myself and others?

If not, it’s time to think big and act bold! Let’s dive in.

The dream is what keeps you up at night and stirs you out of bed in the morning.

The dream gives you traction and discipline to go another mile.

The dream is what causes you to learn one more thing.

The dream is what arouses your curiosity and creativity.

The dream keeps you young.

The dream makes you figure it out and risk more.

The dream is what makes your life worth living.

Is there something deep down in your gut gnawing at you, a longing within that is drawing you into a scary-big, audacious dream?

The dream nags you when you feel stuck in a dead-end job. The dream lingers in your mind as you remember the marriage or relationship you hoped for but aren’t currently experiencing. The dream stirs something in you when scrolling through images of your friends’ breathtaking adventures.

Knowing you are made for more; the dream nags you when you drift into the routine of another ordinary day. The dream lurks in cubicles and boardrooms, bars and bedrooms, church pews and airplane seats, college dorms, and elegant hotel rooms. The dream whispers to you through a great novel, a memory in a photograph, or song lyrics.

The dream is your deep-seated desire for a life that matters, a longing for more.

Dreamers are not afraid to upset the equilibrium and challenge the status quo.

Timidity is dangerous because reticence and doubt stall execution and action.

The dreamers are not afraid to make waves and risk mistakes.

Waves bring refreshing and mistakes can be corrected. No one remembers the timid.

People follow the bold. People follow the doers.

Is there something so alive in you that it drives you to lead and inspires others to follow?

What dream has you? It’s an essential question because no person, company, or country can rise above it’s aspirations.

If you can’t think, dream and see it you’ll never achieve it. You cannot be a force for positive change, and you can’t design a life you love unless you are pursuing something that really excites you.

FOCUS FORWARD! The most important thing about you today is not where you’ve been or where you are right now; it’s where you are going. Who you are in the present—your intents, motives, moods, and attitude—is shaped by where you want to go, who you want to be, and what you want to do in the future. Anticipation and desire give your dreams traction and fuel.

You shape your dreams, and then your dreams shape you.

If you need an argument for stepping out of the comfort zone and into a big, scary, monster-like dream, here are four pretty compelling reasons:

A dream will help you:

  • Concentrate your efforts… You’ll be more productive.
  • Drive strategy and improve decisions… You’ll move (movement begets movement).
  • Overcome defeats and roadblocks… You’ll rise strong and advance.
  • Transcend distractions… You’ll focus on your focus!

Living by design is going after your dreams, aspirations and ambitions with gusto and conviction.

Are you throwing your emotional weight into a big dream? A Dream that scare the daylight out of you—a dream that requires drive and divine intervention. Warning… No one ever feels qualified to pursue a dream others consider preposterous or unbelievable. Listen to the whispers, and ignore the naysayers!

A big dream will stretch you beyond what you think you are capable of doing. A big dream demands guts, risk, energy, and faith. You have to be willing to spar with uncertainty, risk and exposure. And when you dare to exercise the courage to step into a big dream, it will transform you.

What would you do today, this week, this year if you were going to be really brave? What would you do if you weren’t afraid of taking the risk, being rejected, looking crazy, being wrong, being alone or failing?

There are too many dead people working in cubical nation and too many people on autopilot declining or flatlining through life because they have stopped dreaming!

If you’ve stopped dreaming, use this as your call to courage. Dig deep, dust off your dreams, and start soaring, making your impossible possible.

You are wired to live an epic story, but that won’t happen without a monster dream and a compelling drive to be a Dreamer and a Doer!
